Charity Work - Foxton Centre
Leyland St James’ CE Primary have been collecting everyday items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, deodorant, combs, sweets and chocolate which were then stuffed into socks creating a Christmas bundle for the homeless and vulnerable people of Preston. On Monday 16th December, Year 6, delivered 3 large bin bags of socks packed with donations to the Foxton Centre.
During their visit, they were lucky enough to have a tour of the centre, seeing various workshops in which the volunteers
Year 6 were also able to see the facilities which are offered to the homeless; the kitchen, sleeping facilities and classrooms which teach life skills such as reading, writing and computing. There was an opportunity to speak to the volunteers, who had previously accessed the centre earlier on in their lives. This was a worthwhile experience, understanding the challenges which vulnerable people experience within our community as well as learning how the community comes together to help those in need.
Heart Start - First Aid
Year 6 took part in first aid training, gaining their level 1 certificate. Lancashire coaches provided detailed training which covered CPR, the recovery position, choking as well as giving children first-hand experience at saving lives. The children did an excellent job, taking their roles very seriously; they should be very proud of their achievements.
Advent Wow Day - 2/12/19
‘A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD— and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.’
The pupils of Leyland St James' welcomed in the season of Advent by taking part in a very special 'Advent Wow Day'. Each year group spent time in each class, learning a variety of important messages linked to Advent.
Activities included: Identifying the symbols of the Advent Wreath; decorating the outdoor prayer area; writing reflective prayers as well as many more meaningful craft activities.
